Sindhu Claims Maiden Singapore Open Defeating China’s Wang Zhiyi

Singapore Open 2022: In the final, Sindhu holds her ruthless performance to emerge victorious against China’s shuttler to become the third Indian to win Singapore Open.

Singapore Open 2022: Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu persisted in her dominating show in the Badminton tournaments, this time emerging champion of the Singapore Open beating China’s 22-year-old Wang Zhiyi.

Two-time Olympic medalist beat Chinese counterpart by 21-9, 11-21, 21-15 to become the third Indian shuttler to grab the prestigious Singapore Open after Saina Nehwal (2010), and one in men’s singles.

It was the third world tour title of the season for Hyderabad-born Shuttler.

However, it wasn’t the easiest of the match for the third-seeded Indian shuttler as the drift in the hall made it difficult for the players to survive.

Wang chose the side that was against the drift and that put him in an advantageous position after the final change of ends.

But Sindhu came all charged up against any blow that was intended to target her. She made it clear to cancel out all the errors and came out as the trump in the end.

After trailing with 2 points in the start, Sindhu came out with all guns blaze as she ensured an 11-point nonstop streak to lead up to 11-2. And that’s worked in her favour with Wang didn’t get any chance to recover from there.

Though, the second game didn’t go the way Sindhu wanted to. Wang was back in the driver’s seat with a lead up to 11-3 and eventually took the game away to equal the sets 1-1 and now the contest coming down to the wire.

Singapore Open 2022: Sindhu’s final game triumph…

As the set came to the decider, it needed something extra from both ends and that’s what it came up with. Both players indulged in the long rallies making it a nail-biting contest.

While Wang looked charged and electric, Sindhu remained cool and calm, and after the score line read 5-5, the ecstatic Sindhu went into a smashing mode to earn a five-point lead at the interval.

Wang, again back to the better side forced Sindhu to commit errors reducing the lead to 11-12.

But Sindhu had decided not to overturn the joy at any cost and smashed some super shots on rivals’ forehand to lead up again with 18-14. And with two points away from a historic win, Sindhu hit long unleashing a smash, and then Wang goes wide to assure a win for the Indian shuttler.

She threw a racket through the air in joy and the celebration started in the Indian camp.

This win will be a big boost ahead for the Commonwealth games where Sindhu will lead the charge of the Indian campaign. The games will start on 28th July in Birmingham.
