CWG 2022: Commonwealth Games 2022 started off in style for team India as one of its 215-member contingent Shiva Thapa wins the first round of the Boxing beating his arch-rival Pakistan’s Suleman Baloch in a one-sided contest in Birmingham.

Shiva from the start looked in dominating touch giving no time to his Pakistan counterpart to revive in the latter half of the match. After winning comfortably in the first round, Thapa received some tough punches from Baloch subsequently but it was Thapa who came out as the winner in the next round too.

Bronze medalist in the 2015 World Games, Thapa sustained his leading show and raced to an emphatic 5-0 win. Pakistan’s Baloch didn’t stand a chance against a motivated Indian champion.

After registering the win, Thapa has now advanced on to round 16 and is all set to face the 2021 World Bronze medalist, Reese Lynch
