IND Vs ENG Fifth Test: India is ahead on the third day of the fifth test with a healthy lead of 257 runs in the second innings with some grit and determination from their test spearheads Pujara and Pant holding the crease till stumps. Pujara is unbeaten on 50 and will look further to prove his mettle in this Indian team.

However, the day belongs to big man Jonny Bairstow who smashed his 5th century in tests this year and is leading the run-scorer chart for now. Resuming the day on 12 from 47 balls, Bairstow went on to hit the century in 119 balls. Means the next 88 runs in 72 balls.

This carnage didn’t happen naturally though, Virat Kohli and Jonny indulged in sledging when the later was struggling to go but that instance encouraged him to go bang-bang and hit the swashbuckling century.

IND Vs ENG Fifth Test: India took a healthy lead of 132 runs in the first innings

Resuming the day on 84/5, it seemed that India will take the lead of over 200 runs but skipper Stokes and Jonny Bairstow had an alliance of 66 runs for the 6th wicket before Bumrah took a blinder of Stokes to knock him over. The BazBall approach didn’t go well with him.

Nevertheless, Bairstow didn’t mind going with this tactic. In his 140-ball outing, Yorkshire man smashed 14 fours and 2 giant sixes. He stitched a 92-run stand with keeper Sam Billings who kept the one end alive before Mohammed Siraj shattered his stumps.

Siraj was going through bowler for India, scalping wickets when needed. He picked 4 wickets while Bumrah had 3 in his kitty. Mohammed Shami was outstanding with his control and accuracy.

India didn’t get much promising start in the 2nd innings with Shubman Gill becoming the victim of James Anderson’s brilliance for the consecutive time in the test match. Hanuma Vihari too couldn’t hold on to the middle for long as Broad nicked out off Vihari’s drive.

Star batter Virat Kohli looked in touch with cover drive and straight off James Anderson. It seemed he will reach the milestone today he was looking for. But the miracle happened and Kohli was out with a Jaffa by Stokes. Made a good 20 though.

Although, Pujara and Pant had different plans from here on. They ensured no more fall of wicket today as they added 50 runs for the 4th wicket and still going strong. Cheteshwar Pujara scored his 33rd half-century in a comeback game for India. He recently had a great outing in the County Championship knocking 4 centuries.

Rishabh Pant is undefeated at 30 in 46 balls, previous innings centurion Pant will look to take on England bowling once again and take the India lead over 400 to ensure a good score to defend for bowlers.
