The Indian cricket team has suffered a major setback just before New Zealand tour. Prithvi Shaw, who was selected as the team's backup opener for New Zealand tour, has been injured. India's young opener Prithvi has been ruled out of the New Zealand A team due to injury. Prithvi was injured while playing during the domestic Ranji Trophy match. Now, opener Prithvi Shaw will not play for India A in the two warm-up matches on the New Zealand tour. Shaw has had to withdraw from the series due to injury.

The BCCI stated that a decision will be taken later on their participation in the ODIs and four-day matches to be held on New Zealand tour. The BCCI said that Prithvi suffered a shoulder injury while fielding on January 3 during the Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Karnataka. Prithvi is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

Significantly, Prithvi made an international debut for India against the West Indies. Prithvi had caught everyone's attention by scoring a brilliant century in his very first match. After this, Prithvi, who visited Australia, was injured during the practice match. He had to return from the tour.
