On This Day: Team India won the three-match series of the One Day International format against the hosts, England on this day (July 17) in 2022 when they toured the United Kingdom again.

The limited overs series, ODIs and T20Is were captained by Rohit Sharma and he led India to win both series by a margin of 2-1.

India had also played the rescheduled Test match at Edgbaston. That lone red ball match was captained by Jasprit Bumrah.

However, the men in blue side lost that game despite the centuries scored by Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.

So the five-match red ball series ended in a draw with a margin of 2-2.

Rishabh Pant scored a vital ton to help India to win the fifty overs series

India’s flamboyant wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant was the star in the final ODI match of the three-match series of the fifty overs format.

The visitors, India was under pressure when they had to chase a sniff target for a series win against the home side, England.

But Rishabh Pant made sure to stay till the end and that helped India to win the One Day International series. This was Pant’s best-ever knock in the fifty-over format.

The final match of that three-match fifty overs format series was played at Old Trafford in Manchester. Rishbah Pant scored his first-ever century in the ODI format.

He was unbeaten on 125 runs scored from 113 deliveries which helped India to achieve a historic and rare series win in England on this day, 17th July 2022.

India’s pace-bowling all-rounder, Hardik Pandya gave an all-round show in the final match of the ODI series. Pandya’s contribution with the ball was also very important for the men in blue side in that match.

His tactics to bowl short-pitched balls worked as the home side batters managed to muster just 259 runs and they couldn’t even complete their quota of fifty overs.

Hardik bagged a four-wicket haul with the white cherry and with the bat, the all-rounder shared a vital stand with the centurion Rishabh Pant.

In the run chase of 260 runs, India’s top order was crumbled to the fast bowlers of England. That’s where Rishabh and Hardik got their act together and brought India closer to victory.

Pant and Pandya shared a stand of 133 runs for the fifth wicket. Hardik was the second-highest run-scorer of that game with valuable 71 runs. India won that game by five wickets and 47 balls to spare.

Rishabh Pant earned a player of the match award for his brilliant knock of unbeaten 125 runs, which helped the men in blue side to win the ODI series by a margin of 2-1.
