According to the highly placed sources in the BCCI, she was the first Indian women player to have applied for the post. Fifty-five-year-old Banerjee has participated in two World Cups, played 12 Tests and 26 ODIs and has also served the omen's cricket in various capacities after her retirement.

She has been a Chairperson for the selection panel, served as the team manager and represented BCCI as its referee. She has completed Level A course and has coached the teams at the domestic level.

Challenging job

In the meantime, Herschelle Gibbs, the former South African opener Herschelle Gibbs, who too tossed his hat into the ring believes that coaching India's women team would be a great challenge.

He looked the present Indian player during World T-20. There is nothing wrong with a different approach. It was a belief that the Indian cricket team needs a female coach, if not as a head coach, at least as an assistant coach to be there best friend and understand them.

And it will help the player to understand and communicate better with each other.
