Australia defeated West Indies by 133-run on the DLS method in the rain-affected first ODI of a three-match series at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Tuesday. Earlier, Australia lost 1-4 in the five-match T20I series against West Indies. Regular captain Aaron Finch was not available for the first match of the ODI series due to injury. In such a situation, the responsibility of captaincy was handed over to wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey.

The new captain of the Australian team, Alex Carey, gave three players a chance to debut. With this, Australia has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Regular captain Aaron Finch may return in the second match, but Alex Carey has done the job well in the first match. Mitchell Starc took five wickets for 48 runs, while Josh Hazlewood returned with 3-1 figure.

Meanwhile, Kieron Pollard said, "I thought our bowlers did a very good job to limit Australia given that the average score batting first here is a round 260. To be brutally honest though, I felt we gave away 20-25 runs in the field. (On the batting side) I just want our guys to put up a fight. Just because the ball is swinging or moving, don't just give it away with soft dismissals."
