KL Rahul has set a record that no skipper in his career would ever aspire to break. Rahul has become the first Indian captain to lose his first three ODI matches. After losing the first two ODIs, he was tied with Ajit Wadekar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, and Mohammad Azharuddin. However, after losing the final ODI against South Africa, Rahul moved ahead of these four cricketers.
In the press conference followed by the third ODI, Rahul discussed Team India's dismal performance. We played well in pieces, says Rahul. We couldn't keep the pressure up for long as a group. Rahul remarked in the press conference that Deepak Chahar, "given us a chance to win the game." It was a thrilling match, but we were disappointed to come up short. We gave ourselves a genuine chance, something from which we can learn and improve.

KL Rahul went on to say that "it's evident where we went wrong," and that "I'm not running away from it." On a few occasions, our shot selection has been terrible. Even with the ball, Rahul believes that we are not consistently hitting the right spot. We performed effectively in sections, but we couldn't maintain the pressure for long. It is not at all good to blame the players for their enthusiasm and efforts.
According to the Indian captain, we sometimes make mistakes in terms of skill and understanding of the situation. However, considering several of our players are new to our team, this is to be expected. We have made the same mistakes numerous times in the ODI series, says Rahul. This is the first step on our way to the World Cup. After we return, we can have some tough talks with the players. He stated that we had a wonderful experience in South Africa and that we were properly taken care of. We have demonstrated a great deal of adversity.
