It’s Unfair to Expect Same Pay as Male Cricketers: Smriti Mandhana

On Wednesday, Smriti Mandhana, former captain of the women's cricket team said that she had no problem with getting less salary than the male cricketers. Mandhana said, "I understand that revenue comes from men's cricket. The day women's cricket starts earning on its own. I'll be the first person to say that we need the same pay. But now we can't say anything."

The BCCI pays Rs 7 crore a year as a contract to male cricketers who fall in the highest category (A +) of the central contract of BCCI. It features Virat Kohli, Jaspreet Bumrah and Rohit Sharma. At the same time, women cricketers falling in this category get 50 lakh rupees annually as a salary. Smriti Mandhana also falls in this category. Apart from him, Harmanpreet Kaur and Poonam Yadav are also included in this category.

Mandhana said, "I don't think any player in our team is thinking about this difference right now." Our whole focus is on winning matches for India and getting people on the field. India will play a tri-series before the T20 World Cup begins in Australia and Mandhana feels that the tournament is important to finalize the team composition right for the big event next month.
