BCCI on Monday announced two new teams for IPL 2022. Lucknow and Ahmedabad will be the two new cities of the IPL. Kolkata-based industrialist Sanjiv Goenka's RP-SG Group on Monday bought the Lucknow franchise of the Indian Premier League for Rs 7090 crore while international equity investment firm CVC Capital won the Ahmedabad franchise by bidding for Rs 5,600 crore.

Rising Pune Supergiants

The Cricket Board of India (BCCI) was expected to get around Rs 10 thousand crores from the two new teams participating in the IPL from 2022 but it earned Rs 12,690 crore. According to the reports, Goenka is one of the strong contenders to buy the franchise. Prior to this, he owned Rising Pune Supergiants in the IPL for two years 2016 and 2017.

A senior BCCI source in Dubai told, "Yes, RPSG made the highest bid of Rs 7090 crore while CVC made the second-highest bid of Rs 5,600 crore." BCCI will earn around one billion 700 million dollars from this deal.

Gautam Adani's Adani Group is one of the major losers in the race to buy the franchise, which had put in a bid of around Rs 5,000 crore. Bids from Manchester United-owned Glaser and Torrent Group also did not figure in the top two bids. 22 companies had bought the tender document for Rs 10 lakh, but with the base price of the new teams being Rs 2,000 crore, only five or six serious contenders were in the race.

RPSG Group

It may be recalled that the RPSG Group had earlier owned the Rising Pune Supergiant team, which had participated in two seasons due to the ban of CSK and RR.

Now, this group has moved to Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium, Lucknow. The stadium opened to the public in November 2018 and has an audience capacity of 50,000.

On the other hand, CVC Capital is an international consortium with offices in Europe, Asia and the Americas. Prior to this, it was a stakeholder in Formula 1. At the same time, it also took a small stake in La Liga and his home will be the world's largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium. It has a seating capacity of 1,32,000 spectators. Both these groups outperformed many other bidders. This included Adani Group and Lancer Capital. A total of Rs 12,200 crore was spent in Dubai.
