Indian Women’s Wins Historic Bronze to End Campaign on High Note

It marked off as a super Sunday for the Indian women’s hockey team and all the proud Indians as India ensured a podium finish in the must-win game against the reigning champions New Zealand in a shootout game, here at Commonwealth Games 2022.

After the game was equalized with 1-1 full-time, Indian women hold their nerves to ensure that no more heartbreak would travel alongside them on their way back to India.

India was leading the game for almost till the end of the game with a 1-goal superiority but when less than 30 seconds were remaining in the game, New Zealand’s Olivia Merry made full of the penalty corner to equalize the game 1-1.

Salima Tete provided a must-needed lead

It was Salima Tete who provided India a lead in the early time of the play which proved to be a crucial one as, after that, they were not able to slice out any more goals.

The lead till halftime paved the way for an entertaining second half of the game.

It was Neha Goyal, who almost took the game out of New Zealand’s hand after a scintillating shot but the defenders ensured no more harm to the kiwi team and a chance is there for them too.

Indian contingent’s amazing show in the ongoing CWG continues as, after the Indian women’s hockey team bronze, boxers Amit Panghal and Nitu Ghangas have also clinched gold in their respective boxing events.

India has recorded 15 gold medals, 11 silvers, and 17 bronze medals so far in the games with Sanket Sargar the first to open the account.

Sudhir was the first one to win a medal in the para-sports event with a gold medal in the para-powerlifting men’s heavyweight category.

Weightlifting: - 10 medals including 3 gold and silver each, and 4 bronze.

Judo: - 3 medals including 2 silvers, and 1 bronze

Lawn Bowls: - 2 medals with 1 gold and silver each.

Table Tennis: - 1 Gold medal

Badminton: - 1 silver medal

Squash: - 1 bronze medal

Para Powerlifting: - 1 gold medal

Athletics: - 4 medals including 3 silvers, and 1 bronze

Wrestling: - 12 medals including 6 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze

Boxing: - 5 medals including 2 gold, and 3 bronze

Para Table Tennis: - 2 medals with 1 gold and bronze each

Hockey: - 1 bronze medal
