India Tour of England: KS Bharat Named as Standby for Wriddhiman Saha

KS Bharat, a 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman from Andhra Pradesh, has been included in the Indian team for England tour. He has been added to the squad as standby of wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha. India's tour of England comprises the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and the five-Test series against the hosts. Saha has just recovered from a coronavirus infection.

On the other hand, Bharat has reached Mumbai on 19 May. He will remain in two weeks quarantine like the rest of the players in the hotel. He will leave for England with the team contingent on 2 June. Bharat was also included in the squad as a standby for the home Test series against England.

Saha tested positive for COVID-19 during IPL 2021:

Wriddhiman Saha has played 38 Test matches so far. However, Rishabh Pant is at the forefront to replace Saha as wicket-keeper in the Indian Playing-XI. Meanwhile, Saha tested positive for COVID-19 a day before the IPL-2021 was suspended. He had also been quarantined in Delhi for two weeks before returning to Kolkata. He went to meet family members in Kolkata with special permission from BCCI. Now, he will again serve a quarantine period in Mumbai for two weeks.

Bharat has played 78 first-class matches

KS Bharat, who is part of the India-A team on a regular basis, has been playing first-class cricket since 2013. He has played 78 first-class matches so far and has scored 4283 runs at an average of 37.24. This includes 9 centuries and 23 half-centuries.
