IND Vs SL 3rd T2OI Preview: Team India’s Likely Playing XI

Ishan Kishan(wk), Shubman Gill/Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, Rahul Tripathi,  Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya(c), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar/Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh/Harshal Patel, Shivam Mavi, Umram Malik.

India lost the opportunity of clinching the T20I series in Pune yesterday i.e. Jan 05. They won the toss and sent Sri Lanka to bat first in the 2nd T20 International match.

Apart from the first over from Hardik Pandya, India’s bowling lacked discipline and they bowled seven no balls in yesterday's match.

Arshdeep Singh looked rusty and out of touch. He was more expensive than Harshal Patel, who bowled in the first T20I in Mumbai.

India can bring back Harshal Patel for the third and the final T20I at Rajkot. Harshal can also add depth to the batting order. Umran Malik was the pick of the bowlers in the last match.

He picked up three wickets while Axar Patel too had a good day as an all-rounder. He batted brilliantly, scored 65 runs and also picked up two wickets.

But India needs Hardik to bowl his full quota of four overs. In the first match he bowled three and yesterday he bowled just two overs. That’s why India should add Washington Sundar to their playing 11.

Sundar is a good all-rounder who can also lengthen the batting for Team India. India’s top order is also a concern. They have failed in two back-to-back games.

The hosts can replace Shubman Gill with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been a brilliant white ball player in the domestic circuit.

Rutu has also played the Indian Premiere League (IPL) as a premiere opening batter of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side.

He also opened in the series against South Africa at home and so far Gaikwad has impressed one and all.

Shubman Gill hasn't proved his worth in the two chances. He has done well in the red ball format and the one-day international cricket. But he is yet to transform his IPL form into the T20 International format for India.

Gill did well for the title-winning team of Gujarat Titans in TATA IPL 2022. However one could say that he has used up his chances at least for the 3rd T20I match against Sri Lanka.

IND Vs SL 3rd T2OI Preview: Sri Lanka’s Likely Playing XI

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(wk), Dhananjaya de Silva/Avishka Fernando, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka.

Sri Lanka won the second T20I match by 16 runs and that win largely came because of the brilliant opening start and a grand finish with the bat and ball by Dasun Shanaka.

The skipper of the Lankan Tigers led his team from the front. Now the visitors would eye a historic series win in Rajkot. SL hasn’t won any bilateral series in the shortest format in India.

The Lankans will need a solid start by Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis once again to achieve this rare feat. The Sri Lankan openers added 80 runs in just eight overs.

They had an aggressive approach and use the opportunities presented by the Indian bowlers. SL can replace Avishka Fernando in place of Dhananjaya de Silva. Silva is there in the team because he can bowl.

But if Dasun Shanka can bowl then SL could drop Dhananjaya de Sliva. Adding Avishka Fernando to the playing XI will be a great choice as they would also need a premiere batter in the middle order who would capitalize on the start given by the openers. Dhananjaya has failed in the two games so far.

Shanka was brilliant in yesterday’s game as a leader, bowler and batsman. He took the responsibility of defending 21 runs in the final over and gave away only five.

With the bat in hand, he smashed 56 runs from just 22 deliveries. That propelled his team to score a majestic total of 206 runs. Shanaka needs to deliver in the final game as well which will help his team to clinch the series.

The pacers Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha too did a great job with the new ball. Kasun Rajitha also performed brilliantly when Sri Lanka played in Pune when they toured India in 2016.

Hasaranga went for plenty of runs in the 2nd T20I. He would be aiming to make a stronger comeback. Overall this Sri Lankan side has the potential to challenge India in the last match of this T20I series.
