IND Vs SL 2nd T2OI Preview: India and Sri Lanka will Look to Solve their Batting Woes

IND Vs SL 2nd T2OI Preview: India and Sri Lanka had a neck-to-neck battle in Mumbai yesterday. The bowlers of both teams did a fair job. But they would like their batters to step up in the second encounter of this three-match series of the shortest format.

IND Vs SL 2nd T2OI Preview: Team India’s Likely Playing XI

Ishan Kishan(wk), Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Hardik Pandya(c), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar/Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Mavi, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, Umram Malik.

India had a narrow escape in Mumbai. The Blues won the first T20 International match by just two runs and that win was mainly because of the bowlers who were excellent in defending a modest score of just 163 runs.

After losing the toss, India was invited to bat first in yesterday’s game. Ishan Kishan provided a blistering start to the innings.

But the middle order ruined that start and Kishan also couldn’t do much as he saw many wickets tumbling at the other end.

Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson and the debutant T20I opener, Shubman Gill failed to do well in the first T20I match. Now in the second match, the hosts will aim to clinch the series.

So, they will need their top and middle-order batters to do a better job. India reached 163 runs only because of Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda’s power hitting the later overs.

After skipper Hardik Pandya was dismissed for 29 runs, no one thought that the team would score more than 140 runs.

But Hooda and Axar did a wonderful job as the lower-order batters. They added valuable 85 runs and also brought the lost momentum back.

Defending just 163 runs and that too at Wankhede Stadium isn't easy because of the small boundaries. But still, the Indian bowlers did a wonderful job.

The pace bowlers were brilliant. Shivam Mavi made his debut in yesterday’s game and Umran Malik too played his 1st T20I match for India.

Mavi picked up four wickets in his debut game while Malik got two important scalps as well. Harshal Patel too was good and Hardik’s initial three overs were also brilliant.

But the skipper didn’t bowl the last over and it was a risk to ask Axar Patel to do that job. Hardik had one over left and he still went with a spinner.

However, that risk paid off in the end and India won that match also. But Hardik not bowling the final over of the innings had raised his fitness concerns ahead of the second T20I match in Pune.

India might go with an extra pace option and drop a batter because they will need a pace bowling option for the 2nd T20I.

The team might drop Sanju Samson and play Hardik as a pure batter. Arshdeep Singh will be a good replacement for India because Singh has been mighty impressive in the shortest format.

He can be the one who could do the job with the new ball in the first six overs for the team. Arshdeep had picked up the second most wickets in the T20 International last year as well.

IND Vs SL 2nd T2OI Preview: Sri Lanka’s Likely Playing XI

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(wk), Dhananjaya de Silva/Avishka Fernando, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha/Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka.

Sri Lanka was very close to that win in the first T20I yesterday. They fell short by just two runs in the end. It was an engrossing battle between the two teams and we expect to be another cracking contest on Thursday.

The visitors will want their batters to come good so they can level the series to one-all. Despite the bowlers doing a wonderful job, SL lost the first T20I match.

The openers Nissanka and Mendis are very good in the top order and they also have brilliant batters like Rajapaksa, Asalanka, and Skipper Shanaka. Sri Lanka's batting is deep and they also have all-rounders like Hasaranga and Karunaratne.

So this is a good side which would be a great match to any top teams of the world in the shortest format.

The bowlers went for runs in the first few overs. Still, they pulled things back quite brilliantly. The spinners Hasaranga and Theekshana did well and picked up the wickets of the Indian batters at regular intervals.

The fast bowlers like Madushanka and Karunaratne also did a decent job. Sri Lanka can drop Kasun Rajitha and add Lahiru Kumara for the next game.

They can add Avishka Fernando in the place of Dhananjaya de Silva as well, which could strengthen their middle order.

Dasun Shanaka didn’t bowl even a single over in yesterday’s game. The visitors need their skipper to contribute with the ball as well.

Shanaka was the one who tried his best to take the team through in the run chase and Chamika Karunaratne also tried to do the same.

But they both failed to do the job yesterday. That's why adding a specialist batter in the middle order could help them in the second T20I match.

IND Vs SL 2nd T2OI Preview: Pitch Report

The pitch at MCA Stadium is also good for bating. The spinners can come in handy on this wicket as the ball will grip the surface. Bowling first would be a better idea as the dew factor might be here as well.
