Ishan Kishan(wk), Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya(vc), Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj.
India lost three ODI series on their away tours to South Africa, New Zealand and Bangladesh in 2022. The men in blue will not want to repeat that, especially with the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 not far away.
This time India would be hosting the entire tournament. So this series is important for India from the preparation point of view.
Even though, India has a better One-Day International format record against Sri Lanka. But still, they cannot take the Sri Lankan Tigers lightly.
Rohit Sharma will be back to captain the side in the ODIs. Hit Man had missed the last ODI match and two-match Test series against Bangladesh which India won under the leadership of KL Rahul.
Earlier on that tour of Bangladesh 2022, India had lost two matches of that ODI series when Rohit had captained the side. But this time, Hit Man would be playing at home and he take the advantage of that.
Virat Kohli will also be back for this series and so as Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.
KL Rahul might have to sit out of the first ODI as Ishan Kishan will be the one who will replace him as a batter and wicket-keeper.
Ishan scored magnificent 210 runs against Bangladesh in the last fifty-over match which India won in that OI series.
While KL Rahul's form hasn't been good. So the team management would drop Rahul for the first match.
With Siraj and Shami back in the ODI set-up, India's pace bowling has become stronger. India also has Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh as well in their squad for this three-match series.
The hosts can also play all three all-rounders, Hardik, Sundar and Axar. Patel had a good T20I series and he was awarded the man of the series as well. India would want him to continue that form in this ODI series also.
Kusal Mendis(wk), Pathum Nissanka, Avishka Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka(c), Waninidu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Jeffrey Vandersay, Kasun Rajitha, Dilshan Madushanka.
The Lankan Tigers had put up a great fight in the T20I series. They were very close to winning the first match in Mumbai and displayed a clinical performance to win the second game in Pune.
The visitors would eye for a similar fight in the three-match ODI series as well. Sri Lanka would also want to prepare themselves for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and this series would be ideal to start their preparations.
The openers were good in the second T2OI and Sri Lanka would need a similar start in the first ODI as well. Mendis and Nissanka can be dangerous in the fifty-overs format as they can take their time here to build a start.
But the middle order should fire in these fifty-over games. SL lost the series because the middle-order batters didn't step up.
It was Dasun Shanaka who had brought the game closer. But the rest of them failed to deliver. Asalanka, Fernando and Bandara hold the key as the middle-order batters.
SL can drop Dhananjaya de Silva and Rajapaksa because of their poor form in the T20I series. Then the finishing kick can be given by skipper Shanaka, Hasaranga and Karunratne.
The lower-order batters are all-rounders and they need to bowl well also. However, Sri Lanka even needs their skipper to bowl. He did a great job in Pune where he defended 21 runs successfully.
If Shanaka could bowl his full quota of ten overs in this ODI series, that would give the team a great balance. The visitors could add Jeffrey Vandersay in place of Theekshana because India has seen lots of him till now.
The pitch at Guwahati is a balanced one and it helps the bowlers and batters. The spinners can thrive on this slow wicket.
The climate is good for the first One-Day International game between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
