Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium will host its first international game tomorrow i.e. Jan 21.
Before IND Vs NZ 2nd ODI, six games of the IPL and Champions League have been played in this stadium.
The track isn’t favourable for the batters. The spinners will come in play as the track will slow down. The pace bowlers will have to use a lot of variations to succeed.
The weather report is good in Raipur for IND Vs NZ 2nd ODI.
Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya(vc), Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal.
India will look to give a clinical performance in the second ODI after a bit of scare in Hyderabad. The Blues survived the Bracewell scare.
Their bowlers need to put their thinking caps on for the second one-day international at Raipur tomorrow.
The bowlers were in the game for the majority of the time. Till Bracewell and Santner took on the fight.
Defending 350 runs on a flat wicket of Hyderabad isn’t easy. Still, the bowlers could have used the opportunities especially when the opposition team was six down for 131 runs.
The Indian bowlers got the wickets of the Kiwi batters at regular intervals. But it took just a partnership for New Zealand to make a comeback into the match.
The Blues can include Yuzvendra Chahal in place of Washington Sundar. Chahal has been India’s go-to man for the white ball games.
He has the ability to pick up wickets in the middle overs and his partnership with Kuldeep Yadav has been tremendous.
India can go with the combo of KULCHA (Kuldeep and Chahal) for the second ODI match which can help the home side to seal another ODI series at home.
Washing Sundar was on the side as an all-rounder. But he couldn’t contribute with the bat or ball in the first one-day international game.
India also needs their middle order to contribute with the bat in the next game. It was only Shubman Gill’s 208 runs that allowed India to post a decent score of 349 runs.
But the others like Surya and Kishan had the opportunity to bat for a long.
However, they wasted their chance. With the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 around the corner, SKY needs to transform his T20 International form in the fifty overs format as well and Ishan needs to bat well in the middle order.
In the absence of KL Rahul, Kishan needs to seize this opportunity and show that he is comfortable to bat in any position.
Virat and skipper Rohit failed in the last game. They will aim to do much better tomorrow. While Siraj has been the one who has looked good.
He has been getting the wickets in the powerplay overs and has also been successful in breaking the partnerships.
But India also needs Shami and Hardik to do well with the white cheery. They were expensive in the last game.
Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham(c & wk), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, Henry Shipley/Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner.
The Kiwis also had a batting failure in the first ODI match at Hyderabad. The openers and the middle order failed to contribute and New Zealand made the comeback mainly because of Bracewell and Santner.
If that partnership was not on, then it would have curtains for the Black Caps side because that mammoth partnership was the only one which stood out.
The visitors would want their batters to step up in the next match after falling short by just 12 runs in the first one-day international match.
Experienced players like Devon Conway and skipper Tom Latham should lead the batting department. The Kiwis should also include Ish Sodhi, who is a high calibre bowler, especially in Indian conditions.
Mitchell Santner did well as a bowler in the last match. He picked up the vital scalp of Virat Kohli and he was also economical when compared with the other New Zealand bowlers.
So, Ish Sodhi should be in the laying XI because he can also be an impactful bowler just like Santner.
The pace bowlers did a decent job. But the Kiwis will want more from them in the 2nd one-day international match.
New Zealand will need a collective performance to square the series. They are missing their star players like Southee, Boult and Williamson.
But this young side can do well and they also showed what one partnership with the bat can do to the opposition side.
The Kiwis need to show that aggression and also keep an eye on the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.
