The International Cricket Council (ICC) is preparing a new plan for the T20 and ODI World Cup. According to media reports, the ICC is considering increasing the number of teams in both tournaments. The council is currently planning to extend the number of teams in the T20 World Cup from 16 to 20.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, the 2021 T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin in India later this year will feature the older format (16 teams) with the expected changes likely to take place from the 2024 edition.

No. of teams in ODI World Cup reduced in 2019:

At the same time, the number of teams can also be increased in ODI World Cup. Earlier the number of teams in the 2019 ODI World Cup was reduced from 14 to 10. The decision was then taken to keep the broadcasters in mind, as well as to make the matches exciting. According to the reports, ICC may extend the number of teams to 14 teams in ODI World Cup again.

UAE likely to host T20 World Cup:

The last T20 World Cup was won by the West Indies in 2016. Since then, the second tournament has been continuously postponed due to coronavirus outbreak. The T20 World Cup is to be hosted by India this year, but it is under threat due to an epidemic. In such a situation, this tournament can be held in any other country. At the moment, there is talk that the T20 World Cup can take place in UAE. This year the Indian Premier League (IPL) was also suspended midway due to an outbreak.
