ICC ODI World Cup 2023: The Aussies were the title winners of the ODI World Cup 2023 which was hosted by India. The men in blue side had reached the finals as they won all the ten league matches and also defeated New Zealand in the semi final one match.

But in the night of the big finals, Rohit Sharma and his men were not up to the mark and that’s why India’s dream of lifting an ICC trophy after 10 years is not fulfilled this time as well.

The semi final 2 match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. That match was played between Australia and South Africa.

That game was a low-scoring thriller which the Aussies won and booked their place in the finals of this ICC mega one-day international format event against the hosts, the men in blue side.

The match referee who was also the former Indian pace bowler of his time, Javagal Srinath, gave the Eden Gardens pitch of Kolkata an average rating.

The pitch used in semi-final second match was a sticky one and the bowlers got the majority of help because the conditions were overcast as well. South Africa reached a score of 212 mainly because of David Miller’s outstanding century.

In the second innings, the wicket of Kolkata provided a massive turn. The Aussies were in a reeling situation, and it wasn’t a one-sided contest as it seemed at the start.

Cummins and co won the match by just three wickets in end and they reached that target of 213 runs in the 48th over of that match.

Travis Head gave a brilliant start which took some the pressure off from the other Australian batters in that run chase.

The final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 was played between India and Australia at the world’s largest stadium, Shri Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

That pitch of Ahmedabad was also termed as average by the International Cricket Council. The match referee of the ICC Andy Pycroft stated that the pitch of Shri Narendra Modi stadium is average.

The final was not a high-scoring one and it was a two-paced wicket. Australia won the toss and sent India to bat first. The host of this year’s ICC ODI World Cup 2023, India, managed only 240 runs on the board which wasn’t enough in the end.

Australia had lost three quick wickets when they came out to chase 241 runs as the target. The dew also played a big part for the Aussies as they won the finals by six wickets and that too in just 43 overs.

The Aussie skipper Pat Cummins had raised a concern when he knew that the final would be played on a used pitch. The pitch of Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where the semi-final one match was played between India and New Zealand was rated good by the International Cricket Council.

The International Cricket Council has rated five pitches which were used in this ICC ODI World Cup 2023 as an average rating.
