How will England's Thumping Win against Pakistan Help India Qualify for WTC 2023 Final?

England's aggressive approach in the red ball format has helped them. Ben Stokes and his men have won the first test match at Rawalpindi by 74 runs against the home side, Pakistan.

Pakistan lost the first test match at Rawalpindi by 74 runs. Currently, England leads the three-test match series by a margin of 1-0. The second test match of this three-match series in the red ball format will be played in Multan from Friday, 9th December 2022, to Tuesday, 13th December 2022.

The third and final test match of the England Tour of Pakistan 2022 will be played at Karachi from Saturday, 17th December 2022, to Wednesday, 21st December 2022.

England’s bold approach has helped India in a way

Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes's bold and aggressive tactics have helped the English men to seal the first Test match against Pakistan. England had a dominant approach overall in the game, and their decision to declare their innings on the fourth day was spot on.

It showed that Stokes and Co had the self-belief and backing to take all ten wickets of the Pakistani batters on the final day.

This 74-run victory of England has helped India reach the World Test Championship (WTC) finals. That ICC mega event in the Test format will be played in June next year, and ICC is planning to host this event at the Mecca of Cricket, The Lords Cricket Stadium in London.

The first WTC Final in 2021 was played at Southampton, and New Zealand won that match and their first ICC crown.

Men in Blue need to clean sweep Bangla Tigers in two-match Test series

After the spectacular win in Australia last year, India's performance in Test matches has not been good. The men in blue side had lost the series to South Africa, and the Test series against England was drawn.

Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, India has won just two red ball matches, which came against Sri Lanka at home.

Now to reach the World Test Championship (WTC) final for the second time, the men in blue team will have to whitewash Bangladesh in the upcoming two-match Test series.

Australia holds the pole position in the WTC rankings, and India is in the fourth spot on the table. While South Africa is the second-ranked team, and Pakistan is on the fifth spot.

Team India can't afford to lose a single Test match now

After playing the two Test matches against Bangladesh, the Blues are set to lock horns against the Aussies at home for the Border-Gavaskar Test series. India and Australia will play four Test matches.

But Australia has the upper, along with Pakistan and the other teams, because India is not scheduled to play more games in the red ball format before the WTC Final in 2023.

The loss in the first Test match against England will not adversely affect Pakistan. The men in green are on the fifth position and will play four more test matches and make up for the loss.

Australia is the favourites to clean sweep West Indies and win the Test match series against South Africa.

So, India has a more challenging road ahead. The BCCI and the management should have also prioritised the red ball format along with the Indian Premiere League (IPL), T20 International matches and One Day International format.

The lack of test fixtures might cost them a place in the World Test Championship final in June 2023.
