He has been named in the team in place of fast bowler Sean Abbott. Abbott got injured during the match at the Big Bash after which he was announced to be out of the ODI series against India.

A three-match ODI series will be played between India and Australia from January 14 to 19. Selector Trevor Hohns said, "It is very unfortunate for Sean who is part of our limited overs format team. He is part of our ICC T20 World and World Cup plans."

Regarding D'Arcy Short Hohns said, "D'Arcy will be another spinner bowling option in the team along with Ashton Agar. We have four World Class fast bowlers and spinner Adam Jampa." Because of this, the team looks very balanced. Their previous record and ability to bat at any number in the team will greatly benefit the team.
