The number of media rights for the Indian Premier League (IPL) will affect the league's growth, according to Jay Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The entrance of two new teams, in particular, will aid IPL's digital development. In IPL 2022, the Gujarat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants will be joined by two new clubs.
IPL's inspirational price, according to Shah, has surpassed everyone's expectations. He wouldn't say how much it would cost but claimed it would have an impact on the league's growth. The BCCI will issue tenders for the league's media rights for the 2023-27 cycle early next week, according to Shah, and the e-auction will be completed in two months. This is estimated to generate 500 billion rupees.
He stated that the board has looked into several options and that separate TV and digital bids will be considered. This means that Amazon.com Inc. and Reliance Industries Ltd. will compete for TV and digital broadcasting rights with Sony Group Corp. and The Walt Disney Company. The value of the rights might reach to Rs 500 billion, which would be a new high. Star India, which is owned by Disney, is one of India's most popular broadcasters. By 2022, it and Sony will have spent Rs 163.48 billion on digital and television rights.
"Lucknow and Ahmedabad teams have also competed in the IPL, and their presence has benefitted the league," Shah remarked. We have achieved fantastic results in just 14 seasons and have advanced to other prominent leagues. Not only are we being watched on television, but also on the internet. The 10-team league can begin in the last week of March.
