The campaign for the entry of cricket in the Olympic Games has intensified. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has said that it is trying to get cricket a place in the Olympics to be held in Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. For this, the ICC has also formed a working group.
The ICC said that more than 30 million cricket lovers live in America. Therefore, it would be the right decision to include cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics. Cricket is very popular among South Asians living in America. Apart from this, people who settled in America after going from countries like England, Australia also follow cricket. The Olympics will get new fans in the form of cricket lovers.
International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay said that if cricket is included in the Olympics, it will benefit both the game of cricket and the Olympics. The players will have a new target to win, while the Olympics will get new fans in the form of cricket lovers.
Cricket has been a part of the Olympic Games only once. It was included in the second Modern Olympics held in France in 1900. Then only two teams took part as Britain and France. Britain won the gold and France win the silver.
Greg Barclay said that cricket is also being included in the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham in 2022. This will give an idea of what benefit the Olympics can get from the inclusion of cricket.
