BCCI Forms Seven-member Working Group for Domestic Cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has written to state associations, making them aware that the board has constituted a seven-member working group comprising member associations for domestic cricket in India. The group included Rohan Jaitley (North Zone), Yudhveer Singh (Central Zone), Jaidev Shah (West Zone), Devjit Saikia (North-East Zone). Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone), and Santosh Menon and Mohammad Azharuddin (South Zone).

At the same time, Domestic players' remuneration for the last season, canceled due to COVID-19, will be a key point. The BCCI has already announced the return of domestic cricket in India – for the upcoming 2021-22 season – with a total of 2,127 home matches across different age groups in the men's and women's categories.

Domestic season schedule:

According to the BCCI's media advisory, the season will begin with the Senior Women's One Day League on September 21 and will be followed by the Senior Women's One Day Challenger Trophy, which will take place from October 27. The men's tournament will begin with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This T20 tournament will start from October 20 and its final match will take place on November 12. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in January 2021.

Ranji Trophy, which was canceled last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will now be played over a three-month window from November 16 to February 19, 2022. Meanwhile, the Vijay Hazare Trophy will take place from 23 February 2022 to 26 March 2022 in different cities. "The BCCI is confident of hosting the home season with the health and safety of the players and everyone involved is paramount," an official BCCI statement said.
