Australian Cricket: David Warner had always an attacking style of play in whichever format he played. In a format like Test Cricket as well, Warner played it like the limited overs format.
He was known to provide brisk starts in all three formats of the game. Just like Adam Gilchrist, David Warner was also one of the best opening batters in world cricket.
In the Test match against South Africa, which was played in early January 2023, David also smashed a double ton in his 100th red ball game and he is only the second player after England’s former skipper Joe Edward Root to achieve this rare milestone in the red ball format. But since then Warner’s bat has gone silent.
He didn’t score enough runs in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series, World Test Championship 2023 Final and the Ashes 2023 Test Series as well.
Warmer has also announced that the upcoming three-match Test series against Pakistan will be his last match in the red ball format. The all format opener of the Australian Cricket team has scored 8487 runs in the red ball format.
David Warner is still a prolific batter in the team of Australian Cricket in all three formats. He also had a good ODI World Cup 2023, which Australia won.
In that ICC mega event of the fifty overs format, Warner scored 528 runs in just ten games. The Australian Cricket opener also smashed two tons and that many half centuries as well in that tournament which was hosted by India.
Before the three match series of the red ball format against Pakistan starts, today we will name the four batsmen who can replace David Warner as openers in the red ball format of Australian Cricket Team –
The potential opener of the Australian Cricket team for David Warner in the red ball format is Travis Head. This Aussie player has done well as an opener in all three forms of the game.
He also opened in the Test series against India and Australia won that match quite comprehensibly in the end and because of that Australia also escaped from a humiliating whitewash.
Australian Cricket coach Andrew McDonald also has said that David Warner’s replacement could be a player with strong white-ball form. That means the Australian Cricket coach indirectly has indicated Travis Head as the replacement of Warner in the red ball format.
However according to the reports, Head has said no to this role because he feels that the opener’s job in Test matches is specialist job.
Another batter who can replace David Warner as the opening batter in Test match cricket of Australian Cricket team. Bancroft has played for Australia in the red ball format before he was banned for his participation in the Ball Tampering Saga in South Africa and due to that, Bancroft has not played much for Australian Cricket since the Ashes Test series of 2019 which was played in England.
However, Cameron Bancroft was the leading run-getter in the domestic tournament of Australia, the Sheffield Shield Trophy and he has also been getting runs as well. So the selectors and the team management of Australian Cricket can see Bancroft as an option.
The second last player in this list who can be a possible replacement for Dashing David Warner in the red ball format is Matt Renshaw. He was in the Test squad of the Ashes 2023 red ball series. But he didn’t get a game despite a poor form was shown from Warner.
Matt Renshaw had played as a concussion replacement to Warner in the second Test match against India at Delhi. Renshaw is a proper opening batter and he should be selected for that role only. Matt can be a candidate as a next opener in the red ball side of the Aussies.
Marcus Harris can be the last option to take the vacant opening slot once David Warner leaves after the red ball series against Pakistan. He was the part of the Ashes Test series in 2023, which was drawn to 2 all.
Australia Cricket will not find a better opener in the red ball format than Harris,
This is because of his experience at the international level. Marcus Harris could even excel in that role and the Aussies will need him especially during the transition period.
All four opening batters can be tried out in the three-match red ball series against Pakistan, which starts from 14th December 2023 at Perth.
