The four-match Test series between India and Australia is scheduled to be played from 17 December. The Indian team has suffered a major setback before this series. According to a source of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), both opener Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Ishant Sharma may miss the first two matches of the Test series. In such a situation, Shreyas Iyer may be asked to stay back as a reserve batsman for the Test series.
Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma set to miss first two test matches:
Let us tell you that BCCI announced the Indian squad for the Australia tour during the Indian Premier League (IPL). At that time, Rohit Sharma was struggling with hamstring injury, so he was not given a place in ODI, T20 and Test team. Rohit was later included in the Test team, while he was not included in the limited over series.
Currently, both Rohit and Ishant are at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. A BCCI source said, “There won’t be any fresh player coming in after Rohit and Ishant’s arrival. The selectors picked a jumbo squad for this reason. If the need arises, Shreyas could be asked to stay back.”
Shreyas Iyer may replace Rohit Sharma in Test team:
After the first Test match, Captain Virat Kohli will return to India for Paternity Leave. In such a situation, if Rohit does not join the team, then it will be a big shock for the team. It is believed that Shreyas Iyer could be included in the team in place of Rohit.
