After the Taliban's occupation of Afghanistan, the fear of spreading terrorism has increased. Terrorist organization Arabian Peninsula Al Qaeda (AQIP) has congratulated the Taliban for winning Afghanistan. He has praised his fellow terrorist group the Taliban for capturing Kabul with military force after ousting the US military and the Ashraf Ghani government. In a statement, AQIP congratulated the Sunni Pashtun group for its victory and the liberation of the country.
On the Taliban's victory in Afghanistan, several other terrorist groups affiliated with Al Qaeda have also issued statements. The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Syria, which sees the Taliban as an inspiration for perseverance, has also congratulated the Taliban. The Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), based in western China, also issued a statement congratulating the Taliban on their Islamic State in Afghanistan. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has already pledged allegiance to the Taliban leadership in getting rid of US forces. At the same time, it has been made clear that they will continue to target the Pakistani army.
The HTS, the most powerful faction in rebel-held parts of northwestern Syria, compared the Taliban's control of much of Afghanistan to an early Muslim conquest. HTS said in a statement released late Wednesday that "no matter how long it takes, righteousness will triumph."
HTS said it hopes rebels in Syria will also emerge victorious by learning from the Taliban's experience in overthrowing the government of rival President Bashar al-Assad in the country's 10-year conflict. "We congratulate our Taliban brothers and our people in Afghanistan on this clear victory and wish the Syrian revolution a victory,".
For the past few months, HTS has been working to improve its image by staying away from activist ideology. Some of the founding members, once known as the Nusra Front, include Arab commanders who were close to Osama bin Laden, the founder of al Qaeda in Afghanistan. Many of them have been killed in US drone strikes in Syria over the years. HTS formally broke ties with al Qaeda in 2016 and also moved closer to Syrian rebel groups in the country's northwest.
