There has been good news about the corona vaccine amidst the possibilities of the third wave of corona in India. Soon the Serum Institute of India (SII) will also produce the Russian vaccine Sputnik-V. The serum is currently producing Corona Vaccine Covishield in the country.
In this case, Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) CEO Kirill Dmitriev told that SII will start production of Sputnik-V from September. Every year 30 crore doses will be prepared here. Some other manufacturers are also ready to produce this vaccine in India.
Earlier, SII had last month sought permission from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for the testing license to manufacture Sputnik-V. Along with this, SII also applied for Test Analysis and Examination. SII is the sixth company to manufacture Sputnik in the country.
Sputnik-V is also being produced in India by Dr. Reddy's Laboratories. Sputnik-V has also received approval for emergency use from DCGI. The use of this Russian vaccine started on 14 May. Sputnik is now registered in more than 50 countries. According to a study, its effectiveness is 97.6%.
Adar Poonawalla of Serum Institute expressed happiness about the agreement. He said that we are very happy with the deal signed with RDIF for the production of the Sputnik vaccine. In the coming days, we are ready to make millions of vaccine doses. To beat Corona, it is necessary that all the countries and organizations of the world come together for vaccination.
Russia named its anti-Covid-19 vaccine Sputnik V because it wants to remember its biggest achievement. On October 4, 1957, the Soviet Union (today's Russia) launched the world's first satellite, Sputnik. It was considered a major achievement of Russia during the ongoing Cold War at that time.
The mRNA vaccines from Moderna and Pfizer have proved to be more than 90% effective. After this, Sputnik V has been the most effective with 91.6%. It has been built by Russia's Gamalya Institute with funding from the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
This virus is made on the vector platform i.e. similar to CoviShield. Adenovirus found in chimpanzees has been used in Covishield. At the same time, two different vectors have been used in the Russian vaccine. There is also talk of combined trials of AstraZeneca and the Russian vaccine.
Sputnik V has got approval in 60 countries of the world so far. It was first approved by Russia in August 2020. After this, it was also approved in Belarus, Serbia, Argentina, Bolivia, Algeria, Palestine, Venezuela, Paraguay, UAE, Turkmenistan. It may also soon get approval from the European Union's drug regulator.
