Scared by Heavy Opposition, Companies Stop Increasing Petrol and Diesel Prices

This month, petroleum companies did not make any price changes after setting a record for raising the price of petrol and diesel for 21 consecutive days in spite of softening of crude oil prices in the international market.

There was no change in its price today in view of the nationwide opposition to the petrol-diesel price today. However, this month, after the increase in petrol fuel prices for 21 consecutive days,  the price was not raised. After that, on Monday, where diesel became more expensive by 13 paise, the price of petrol increased by 5 paise.

Congress on Monday staged a nationwide protest against the persistent increase in petrol and diesel prices and urged the central government to immediately withdraw the price hike and bring petroleum products under the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Party President Sonia Gandhi termed the hike in prices of petrol and diesel as 'unjust' and said there was a need to immediately bring back this increase at the time of the epidemic and provide relief to the people of the country.

Government oil companies have increased fuel prices for 21 consecutive days this month. After this, last Sunday it now takes a break from price hikes. But yesterday, i.e. on Monday, the increase was made again. After this, Congress had strongly protested yesterday. After this, there has been no change in prices today. In Delhi today, on 30 June, the price of petrol remained at Rs 80.43 yesterday while diesel also remained at Rs 80.53.

In the international market, for the most part of this month, the prices of crude oil remained soft, but in the domestic market, the prices of petrol and diesel are continuously increasing. Currently, the price of Indian basket crude oil is hovering around $ 40 per barrel. But the prices of petrol and diesel kept increasing almost this month. The effect of this is that the price of diesel has increased by Rs 11.23 per litre in the last 23 days. Petrol prices also rose by Rs 9.17 per litre these days.
