The lantern has once again lit up in Chatra assembly constituency. In Chatra in Jharkhand assembly elections 2019, RJD candidate Satyanand Bhokta defeated BJP's Janardan Paswan by a margin of 24,059 votes. The first phase of voting in Chatra assembly constituency was held on November 30.

A total of nine candidates were in the fray from Chatra. Out of a total of 3,69,989 voters, 2,18,943 voters voted. In this, Satyanand Bhokta of RJD got 1,01,623 votes. BJP's Janardan Paswan had to be satisfied with only 77,564 votes. Thus RJD defeated BJP by a margin of 24,059 votes. Except the BJP, the bail of all the others was forfeited. JDU candidate Kedar Bhuiyan came in third place. He received 7292. Tileshwar Ram of Jhavimo has got 6690 votes, Gautam Ravidas of BSP has got 4644, CPIM's Naresh Ram Bharti 4076, Kuleshwar Kumar Bhokta 3653, Sandeep Kumar has 3486 and Krishna Ravidas has got 3558 and Noto has got 6357 votes.

This seat was in Bihar before the separation of the state of Jharkhand and elections have been held on this seat since 1995. After the formation of Jharkhand state in the year 2000, Satyanand Bhokta of BJP won the elections held here in 2005. After this, Janardan Paswa of RJD party managed to win this seat in the 2009 elections. In 2014, this seat again came to BJP, that year Bharatiya Janata Party veteran leader Jai Prakash Bhokta became MLA.
