New Delhi: Indian Railways has recruited 10,500 personnel in the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Of these, 50 percent of the constable seats were reserved for women. A top official said that the recruitment process started in May last year and has ended recently. Of the total 10,500 personnel, 1,120 sub-inspectors, 8,619 constables and 798 assistant personnel have been recruited.

The official said the number of women constables in RPF is only 2.25 per cent, given that the Ministry of Railways gave priority to recruit more women to empower women and increase their representation in this force.

Central Recruitment Committee Chairman Atul Pathak told PTI-Language on Saturday, "We received more than 82 lakh applications in RPF's largest recruitment. Out of these, 14.25 lakh applications were received for the post of Sub Inspector whereas there are only 1,120 seats for this post. At the same time, 59 lakh people had applied for the constable. Apart from this, nine lakh applications were received for the post of Assistant. "At present, Pathak is the Principal Chief Security Commissioner.

He said that 819 men and 301 women have been recruited for a total of 1,120 posts of sub-inspectors. Apart from this, 8,619 constables were recruited out of which 4,403 are male and 4,216 are female. Physical criteria and physical efficiency test of all successful candidates have been done and police verification is going on. Pathak told that written examinations for these posts were conducted in a total of 400 centers in the country.
