Sleeper modules have been activated during demonstrations in riot-affected areas including the capital Delhi. Radical modules involving the Indian Mujahideen and SIMI have been involved in demonstrations against the citizenship law to provoke sabotage, arson and rioting. These inputs have been shared by intelligence agencies with Delhi Police. This was confirmed by the Delhi Police officer.

The official said that input was also received that a large number of people from Mewat, Noonh and surrounding areas in the Protest to be held on Thursday can enter Delhi through trains and spread violence in the protest. In view of this, Delhi Police had made strong arrangements by putting barricades on the Gurgaon border at night. Along with the additional force, policemen were put on rounds in plain clothes. This was the reason that on Thursday, the movement of vehicles was allowed under strict surveillance and there was a long jam for several hours.

Police had sent a letter to mobile service provider companies
According to the police officer, special cell has written a letter to the provider companies to suspend about 60 WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook accounts. Keeping in mind the protests, SAIL on Thursday shut down mobile and internet services in many areas of Delhi. The special cell had sent a secret letter to Internet and mobile companies in this regard a day earlier, which was revealed on Thursday.

The confidential letter had to shut down internet and mobile services in select sensitive areas. The letter was sent to Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Jio, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). It cited law and order in view of the prevailing situation. The agencies were asked to stop all services from 9 am to 1 am on Thursday, December 19. These services to be discontinued included calling, SMS, voice messages and Internet services. Apart from this, communication services were also asked to stay in Jafrabad, Seelampur, Mustafabad in North East Delhi, Jamia Nagar in South East Delhi, Shaheen Bagh and Wabana area on the border of Haryana. According to police, the move was taken after intelligence input.
