With most teens spending their time on mobile phones or at home, 14-year-old Katie McCabe has set a solo sailing record. She traveled 1600 nautical miles (about 2900 km) around Britain in a 26-foot wooden boat. Earlier this record was in the name of 15-year-old Timothy Long, which had been set a year earlier. Katie told that she started the journey on June 30.

The junk boat was rebuilt in a year

Father David helped her overcome the difficulties in this exciting journey of almost two months. He taught them to face the difficulties they face every day. Katie told that most of the trouble came in the evening and at night. In Scotland, it took 32 continuous hours to cross 170 nautical miles. Their life was brought to life by waves 3 meters high. However, she was successful in overcoming that difficult period.

Katie told that my father is involved in the business of making boats. Both had a passion for sea travel. This was the reason that after marriage, both of them planned to cross the Atlantic. For this, he also sold the boat trip business. Later he completed the journey of 14 thousand miles. With his passion, I also thought of this adventure. For this, the junk boat was rebuilt in a year. It was created by Morgan Giles in 1950.

Father was behind on another boat to monitor

Katie told that his father David was very worried about me. This was the reason that to save me from any trouble, he was keeping an eye on another boat, staying 5 miles behind. Katie said that I had gone on a journey in the summer, which was very challenging. The sea becomes extremely dangerous during this time.
