Ravindra Won Silver Medal in U-23 World Wrestling Championship

Indian wrestler Ravinder Kumar won silver medal in the Under-23 World Wrestling Championship with the loss against Ulukbek Zholdoshbekov of Kyrgyzstan in the final of 61 kg category here on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old Ravindra suffered a 3-5 defeat against defending Asian Under-23 champions Ulukbek in the 61kg category. Despite this defeat, Sonepat wrestler Ravindra, who won gold at the South Asian Games 2016 and bronze at the Cadet Asian Championships in 2014, did commendably.  

This is India's first medal in the 2019 edition and fifth overall in the championship. Bajrang Poonia (65 kg), Vinod Kumar (70 kg) and women wrestler Ritu Phogat (48 kg) were successful in winning the silver medal in the first edition in Poland, while the championship held in Bucharest, Romania last year, the only Indian was Ravi Dahiya (57 kg), who won a silver medal. Among other Indians, Jyoti reached the semi-finals in the 50kg category, beating Maria Liorda of Moldova 12–1. Earlier, she beat Tatsiana Yafremenka of Belarus 6–1. Now Jyoti will face Kika Kagata of Japan.

India's Rani Rana was defeated  6–0 by Dominic Olivia Parrish of America in the 55 kg category. At the same time, Suman was defeated by Yingig Wang of China by 6-4. Pooja Yadav lost 2-6 to Tiana Grace Kennett in the 59kg category. Overall, it can be said that in this tournament, Indian players have performed well. Female players also continue to perform well.
