Rape and POCSO Law should be Completed in Two Months said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday said that the investigation of cases registered under the rape and 'pocso' law should be completed in two months. He said that for this he will write letters to all the Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of the High Court. The Union Law and Justice Minister said that (court) hearings in such cases should be completed within six months.

Prasad made this remark in the wake of nationwide fury over Hyderabad and Unnao rape and murder cases. Responding to reporters' questions after an event, he said that violence and rape of women is unfortunate and completely condemnable and that the perpetrators of such heinous crimes should be punished expeditiously through judicial process.

The Union Minister said, "I am going to write a letter to all Chief Ministers requesting them that investigation in rape and pocso cases be completed in two months." He said, 'I will write a letter to all the Chief Justices of the High Court and request for speedy disposal of all cases related to rape and pocso pending in the speedy courts.'

Prasad, who also holds charge of the Ministry of Communications and Electronics and Information Technology, said that he has urged the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court to ensure that there is a mechanism for speedy disposal of such cases. Asked about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's remarks in the context of rising rape incidents in the country, Prasad said, "I have nothing to say about the Congress party." Not only today, Rahul makes such remarks about the country all the time, which has a bad effect on the image of India in the world. They should understand this because they are big leaders of their party.

He said that there should be no politics on this issue. The minister asked, 'Can Rahul Gandhi guarantee that such incidents (against women) are not happening in the states where his party is in power?' Significantly, Rahul said on Saturday that the international community is ridiculing India and has become the 'rape capital' of the world.
