Gehlot Government in Rajasthan will open 167 English medium schools in the state. The government has taken this decision on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. These schools will be opened in 167 blocks of the state.
There are 301 blocks i.e. subdivision headquarters in Rajasthan. Of these, model schools were opened in 134 blocks during the BJP government. These model schools were opened by the BJP government in the name of Swami Vivekananda and these schools has private schools like facilities. After the establishment of these schools, after a long time it was seen that people are competing for admission in government schools and even the waiting list for admission in schools had to be made.
The current government has not closed these schools, but has started opening English-medium schools in the state with a change. Under this, one English school will opened in each in all district headquarters in the first phase and then in the next phase, English school will be opened in all the subdivision headquarters ie blocks. However, the government is now opening an English-medium school in the blocks where Vivekananda Model School does not exist. Model schools are in 134 blocks out of 301 and now it has been decided to open English medium school in remaining 167 blocks.
The state's Director of Secondary Education, Nathmal Didel, has instructed all district education officers to identify the blocks where there is no Vivekananda Model School in their respective districts and in these blocks also mark the schools where Mahatma Gandhi Government English medium schools can be opened. The English medium school will be built on those schools where the school has its own land and buildings and basic facilities like rooms, playgrounds etc. are available in the school.
The children who are currently studying in these schools, who want to study in English medium, will be given admission in these schools and the children who want to go to Hindi medium school and they will be given admission in the nearest government school. These schools will start from the next session, so that children's learning is not interrupted and the school gets time to raise necessary facilities.
