Railway has so Far Used 115 Special Trains, Brought more than One Lakh Migrants to their Destinations

As of Tuesday morning, around 35 trains left from Gujarat, while 13 trains left from Kerala. According to data available with PTI-Bhasha, 13 trains have gone to Bihar and 11 trains are on the way, while six more are planned to run.

Railways said on Wednesday that it has run 115 Shramikar Special trains since May 1, carrying more than one lakh people stranded in different parts of the country due to the lockdown. The Railways said that out of the 42 trains running on Wednesday, 22 have left in the day. 20 more trains will run at night. The railway operated 88 trains for migrant workers stuck at workplaces due to the lockdown implemented in the wake of the Corona virus epidemic till Tuesday night. Each special train has 24 compartments and each compartment has 72 seats. In order to follow the social distance law, only 54 passengers are being seated in a railway compartment.

The Karnataka government on Tuesday cancelled 10 trains running from the state in the next five days. However, the state government said that three trains from Bengaluru to Bihar will leave by the scheduled time. The Railways have not yet officially revealed how much money has been spent on these services, although the government has stated that the expenses were shared with the states in the ratio of 85 and 15.

Officials have indicated that the Railways spent Rs 80 lakh on each service. As of Tuesday morning, around 35 trains left from Gujarat, while 13 trains left from Kerala. Four trains have arrived in Jharkhand while five are on the way, whereas seven trains have arrived in Odisha and five are on the way.
