Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for calling Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Project in Madhya Pradesh as Asia's biggest project. PM Modi inaugurated the 750 MW solar power project in Rewa:

Let us tell you that on Friday, Prime Minister Modi had inaugurated the 750 MW solar power project in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh through a video conference, saying, "This solar power plant of Rewa will help to make this entire area a big center of energy in this decade." He had also said, 'Today Rewa has really created history. Now the name of Asia's largest solar power project has also been added to it. The government has also said that it will reduce emissions equivalent to approximately 15 lakh tonne of carbon dioxide every year.

Solar energy is going to be a major medium of energy needs:

In his address, the Prime Minister said that when all these projects are ready, Madhya Pradesh will definitely become a hub of cheap and clean electricity. The biggest benefit of this will be to the poor, middle-class families, farmers, tribals of Madhya Pradesh. Solar energy is going to be a major medium of energy needs, not only today but in the 21st century.

Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger: DK Shivakumar

Significantly, Karnataka Congress President and former energy minister, DK Shivakumar said, "Union Power Minister must answer as to how the Central government can claim that the Rewa Solar Park (750 MW) opened today is Asia's largest when clearly the Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger (2,000 MW) and was opened two years back!".
