The former Union Minister and Congress leader Ajay Maken said that Rahul Gandhi should again take over the command of the Congress party, as he is the most accepted leader in the party. He said so during an interview. He also said that there should be space for young leaders in the party. Maken urges Rahul Gandhi to become Congress President again, saying that there is no other face in the party other than Rahul who is acceptable. According to Maken, Rahul Gandhi is a sincere person at heart and he can take a continuous aggressive stance against BJP and Narendra Modi and raise issues of common people. Maken also said that the older generation leaders of the party should gradually make way for younger leaders and if the parties do not change their leadership over time, then people change the parties.
Maken also spoke about the party's interim president Sonia Gandhi. He said that Sonia Gandhi should be in the long-term role of advisor as her experience and her expertise in handling Congress affairs would be needed by the new president. Furthering his point, Maken said that the constitution of the party can also be changed for this. He said that I think it is the perfectly right time that Rahul Gandhi should come back. I am saying this because of my complete commitment and genuine reasons.
Asked whether this would be an appropriate time for Rahul Gandhi's return, Maken said that the sooner the better. Congress's chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala has also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are also very nervous about Rahul Gandhi's determination and boldness with which he has confronted BJP and RSS. Surjewala has also said that Rahul Gandhi has completely convinced himself. Now the time has come for us to rise above the issues of regional leadership and rebuild the Congress. Needless to say that Rahul is the only option to take command of the party. Maken said that the country needs a leader who is not only going to give a good speech but also has good intentions.
