‘Radicalization Programs are Being Conducted to Stop Bigotry from Surface Level’: CDS General Vipin Rawat

The country's first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat, has said that to free the world from terrorism, terrorists and those who support them must take strong action. In a two-day Raisina Dialogue program held in New Delhi, General Rawat said that terrorism can be defeated only in the manner of America. In this program, he also answered serious questions like radicalization of people in the country, use of pellet guns in Kashmir.

He said, 'We have to end terrorism and this can be done only in the manner that America adopted after 9/11 attacks. He (Americans) waged a global war against terrorism. The CDS said, "Elimination of terrorism requires the isolation of terrorists as well as all those who fund or defend terrorism." They have to be punished. He said that peace agreements with terrorist organizations should be guaranteed to ensure peace and tranquility in such agreements. General Rawat said, 'You (in Afghanistan) have to make peace agreement with everybody, if you have to do this with them then you have to ensure peace. Be it the Taliban or any organization involved in numism, they will have to give up their plans of terror, they will have to come to the politics of the chief.

'Radicalization program is going on from schools, colleges to religious places'

In response to a question in the program, CDS said that there is a need to identify people who make radicals and take action on them. He said that bigotry is being taught in schools, universities and religious places. Actually, he was asked that if the campaign against bigotry in the country is not proving effective then how can terrorism be controlled?

The CDS said that in the second phase, it will find out which people have a degree of bigotry. He said, 'People who have become completely fanatical will have to start the work. They have to be included in programs against bigotry. People were radicalized in Jammu and Kashmir. Fundamentalism is also being taught to 12-year-old boys and girls. These people can gradually become bigotry. A deradicalization camp will have to be made for this. Let me tell you that Pakistan is also doing this. There are deradicalization camps because some terrorist organizations have started delivering harm to themselves only. '

When he was asked whether the Indian Army does not do too much in Kashmir? General Rawat said, 'Such an assumption has been made. When the proxy war was being fought, the army had taken strict action, but it is not happening now. Meanwhile, in response to a question on the use of palette guns, he said, 'The stone is also as deadly as the palette gun. We have started using palette guns after coming out from stone pelting. The palette guns target the feet of the stone-pelters. As they bow down to pick up stones lying on the ground, palette gun in return we point palette guns on their faces. The CDS said that the Army does not target the faces of the stone-pelters unnecessarily.
