PV Sindhu was eliminated from the first round in the last few tournaments. But now Sindhu defeated world number 19 Kim Ga Yoon of Korea 21-15, 21-16 in 36 minutes. She will now face Busanan Ongbaumrungfan of Thailand.

Saina has lost in the first round for the fifth time in the last six tournaments. Saina, who won the Indonesia Masters in January this year, was defeated by Kei Yan of China 21–13, 22–20 for the second time in a row. She lost to Kei last week too. World number 16 Sameer lost to Chinese Taipei's Wang Xu Wei 11-21, 21-13, 8 -21 in a 54-minute match. This is their third consecutive defeat in the first round. Both Saina and Sameer are scheduled to play the Guangzhou Korea Masters Super 300 tournament next week.

Saina could not stand the challenge of Kei from the first game. The Chinese player was in lead with 11-4 till the break and won the first game easily. Saina was initially 3 -0 in the second game, but Kei improved to 9-4 with seven consecutive points. After the break, she increased to 17-11, though Saina made a comeback game point but could not maintain the rhythm. On the other hand, Sameer returned in the second game after losing the first game. In the third game however, he could not survive at all and lost.

Apart from Sindhu, HS Prannoy did a decent job to qualify for the second round of the men's singles.
