There are about 14 lakh active soldiers in the Indian Army. Active soldiers are those who are in service. There are 11.55 lakh reserve Soldiers i.e. they are not active in the service. If they are called in case of war, they can serve. There are close to 20 lakh paramilitary forces.

The Indian Army has around 6464 tanks, armored combat vehicles 6704, self-propelled guns 290, towed artillery vehicles 7414, multiple rocket launchers 292 and nuclear weapons 110-120. (Note: this number may vary)

Addressing an event on the occasion of Army Day, Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Narwane told about the new weapons who joined the Army in 2019. He said that in 2019, the Assault Rifle Sigsaur, Sniper Rifle Spike, Anti Tank Guided Missile M-777 , Ultra Light Howitzer 155 MM, Dhanush Artillery Gun, K-9 Vajra Self Propelled Gun and Light Strike Vehicle are included. He also told about Weapon joining the army next year. Next year, the Army will include AK-203 rifle, Sarang Gun System and Medium Range Surface to Air Missile.

India has both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. There are a total of 2,082 aircraft, of which 520 are the number of fighter aircraft, 694 for attack aircraft, 248 for transport aircraft and 364 for trainer aircraft. According to the report, India has a total of 692 helicopters, including 17 attack helicopters. The indigenous fighter aircraft Tejas has been included in the Air Force. By May 2020, the Indian Air Force will also get 36 Rafale jets.

India is also very strong in terms of maritime power. There are around 295 naval assets including aircraft ships, frigates, destroyer ships, corvettes, submarines, patrol vessels and mine warfare.
