Preparing to Fight the Third Wave of Corona, Government to Buy Cryogenic Tankers

The Delhi government has started preparations to prepare for a possible third wave of corona infection. In order to overcome the oxygen crisis caused during the second wave of corona infection, the Delhi government has invited tenders for setting up oxygen production plants as well as for purchasing cryogenic tankers. The last date for submission of application for tender for purchase of cryogenic tanker along with setting up of oxygen generation plant is September 16.

Delhi to become self-sufficient in the production of medical oxygen

A Delhi government official said that it wants to make Delhi self-sufficient in the production of medical oxygen to deal with any crisis or medical emergency situation in the future. The government aims to set up liquid oxygen production plants with a minimum capacity of 50 MT per unit with a target capacity of 100 MT. Under this, non-captive oxygen generation plants of a minimum of 10 MT and a maximum 50 MT capacity will be set up till the total capacity of 100 MT is completed.

The subsidy will be given on electricity

As per the policy document, Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) production plants and non-captive oxygen generation plants will also be given subsidies at the rate of Rs 4 per unit on the power consumed in the manufacturing process for the first five years from the date of commencement of commercial production.

During the second wave, the central government and the state government of Delhi kept blaming each other for liquid medical oxygen. Regarding the lack of oxygen, the Delhi government kept saying that due to the wrong policies of the central government, there has been a shortage of oxygen in Delhi. At the same time, the central government said that the oxygen of Delhi's part was given to it.

There was a severe lack of oxygen in the second wave

Delhi faced severe oxygen shortages in April and May during the 2nd coronary outbreak and hospitals in the capital have sent SOS calls to authorities to fill their declining stock. Many private hospitals had requested the government to get their patients out of this critical situation and the hospital people had to approach the High Court for oxygen crisis. On 23 April, at least 21 critically ill corona patients died at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, North West Delhi's Jaipur Golden Hospital due to lack of oxygen.
