Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa to Arrive on a Four-Day Visit to India from February 13-16

Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will arrive on a four-day visit to India from 13 to 16 February. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Thursday that during this time he will hold talks Prime Minister Narendra Modi and review the progress in bilateral areas and bilateral relations in key sectors. This is President Marcello's first visit to India.

The Portuguese President will be accompanied by a high-level delegation. The last visit of the Portuguese President in India was in 2007. The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the visit would provide an opportunity for the two countries to review progress in various areas of bilateral relations and to walk a new path of mutual cooperation and to discuss international interests. President Ram Nath Kovind will meet the visiting President on February 14 and host a banquet in the honor of the visiting President. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will also call on the visiting President.

Sousa will also travel to the states of Maharashtra and Goa during his visit. India's relations with Portugal are marked by warmth and friendship and have assumed dynamism in recent years, the MEA said. The two countries have active and growing cooperation in the field of economy and business, science, culture, and education. They also share considerable convergences on international issues, it said.
