Before the Punjab Assembly Elections 2022, the issue of lapse in the security of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was brought to the nation’s attention and is now rapidly gaining momentum. Shiromani Akali Dal has also jumped in the ongoing political tussle between Congress and BJP. Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday targeted the Congress government of Punjab on the issue of lapse in the security of the Prime Minister.
Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has said that “the convoy of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was never stopped for 20 minutes anywhere, If the roads can be cleared for the Chief Minister of Punjab, then why not for the Prime Minister?” Not only this, but Bikram Singh Majithia also made serious allegations on the Congress government of Punjab and state chief Charanjit Singh Channi in the dock.
Bikram Singh Majithia blatantly attacked Congress leaders and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for the lapse in the security of the Prime Minister. After getting a huge relief from the court, Majithia attacked Charanjit Singh Channi for the first time. He said that the Prime Minister's convoy was stopped at a flyover in Punjab for 20 minutes. Majithia said that it was planned in the CM's office to humiliate the Prime Minister and the BJP.
Majithia said that when you appoint incompetent officers such as the Director General of Police, who do not make it to UPSC panel, then such incidents are bound to happen. He said that when you can find a way for the Chief Minister’s convoy to proceed smoothly, then why the bias towards the Prime Minister? He made serious remarks and accused Congress of putting the Prime Minister’s life in danger.
Majithia claimed that it was a well-planned conspiracy to endanger the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and its entire plot was made in the Chief Minister's office. He expressed caution and said that it is not merely the case of any individual’s security but a matter of security of the Prime Minister. The security of the Prime Minister is a matter not to be taken lightly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had arrived in Punjab to lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several schemes. After leaving Bathinda airport, when he was going to Firozpur by road, some people blocked his way in the middle of the flyover. PM Modi's convoy was stopped for 20 minutes at the flyover. During this neither the Punjab Police sent security personnel there, nor did the Chief Minister talk on the phone in this regard.
When Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi was called, he refused to talk on the phone. The Union Home Ministry took this incident seriously, as neither the Director General of Police of Punjab nor the Chief Secretary were in the PM's convoy. After the Chief Minister's response, the BJP alleged that the Congress government in Punjab had deliberately put Prime Minister Narendra Modi's life in danger.
Congress, which had not commented on the issue earlier, retaliated saying that as no one showed up to BJP's public meeting, so PM Modi himself chose to returned from there, there was no lapse in his security. However, Charanjit Singh Channi later apologized for this statement. Along with this, an inquiry committee was also constituted for the same. The Union Home Ministry has also formed a three-member committee under the chairmanship of the Secretary.
There is every possibility of this issue heating up in the Punjab Assembly Elections 2022 , Punjab being the border state of the country. Arms and drugs are smuggled from Pakistan in this state bordering Pakistan. Recently, BSF had seized a Pakistani boat near the border raising alarm. Taking such event into consideration, Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh repeatedly issues warning regarding national security.
