
Sukh Ram Dies: Senior Congress leader and former Telecom Minister Pandit Sukh Ram passed away late on Tuesday. Pandit Sukhram's son Anil Sharma told news agency ANI that Pandit Sukhram breathed his last at the age of 94.
On May 4, he was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after suffering a brain stroke. Earlier he was admitted to a hospital in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, but later he was airlifted to AIIMS in Delhi.
At the same time, Pandit Sukh Ram's grandson Aashray Sharma has also given information about this in his Facebook post. Aashray Sharma wrote on Tuesday night, 'Goodbye Grandfather, now the phone will not ring.'
Let us inform you that Pandit Sukh Ram Sharma was the Union Minister of Information and Telecommunications (Independent Charge) between 1993-1996. He was a Lok Sabha MP from Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh.
Sukh Ram won the assembly elections five times and Lok Sabha elections three times during his political career. Now Sukh Ram's son Anil Sharma is the BJP MLA from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi.
In the year 2011, Sukh Ram was also sentenced to five years. He was accused of corruption in 1996 as the Minister of Communications.
Let us tell you that in the year 1993 when Sukh Ram was MP from Mandi Lok Sabha, his son won the assembly elections from this seat. But then in the year 1996, Anil Sharma was expelled from Congress because his name came in the telecom scam. Then Anil formed the Himachal Vikas Congress Party.
Sukhram is said to be the first person in India to make calls from a mobile phone. He was also known as Panditji. He was the Information Technology and Communications Minister of the country from 1993 to 1996 in the Narasimha Rao government at the Center. During his ministership, the telecom sector was opened to the private sector.
