Political Stir in Kashmir: Gupkar Alliance will Meet Today before Modi’s Meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet the leaders of political parties of Jammu and Kashmir on June 24. Earlier on Tuesday, the political parties of Kashmir have called a meeting of the Gupkar alliance.

It will include leaders of six parties, led by Farooq Abdullah's National Conference (NC) and Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party (PDP). The meeting is scheduled to take place at Farooq Abdullah's house. It can be discussed whether or not the Prime Minister will attend the meeting.

There can be a talk on assembly elections and full statehood

Apart from the ongoing political deadlock in Jammu and Kashmir, matters related to the grant of full statehood to the Union Territory are likely to be discussed in the meeting of Prime Minister Modi on June 24. The meeting is also expected to discuss the assembly elections to be held in Jammu and Kashmir.

Elections in the state are pending since 2018. Then the alliance of Mehbooba Mufti's party PDP and BJP was broken. Meanwhile, the Gupkar Alliance had also indicated a soft stance on talks with the central government.

Shah had a high-level meeting, also met Manoj Sinha

Earlier, Amit Shah held a high-level meeting in the Ministry of Home Affairs on Friday. These included National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Intelligence Bureau (IB) Director Arvind Kumar, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) chief Samant Kumar Goel, CRPF Director General Kuldeep Singh and Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh. Before this meeting, Amit Shah also met the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha. Both the meetings are being described as important for Jammu and Kashmir.

Article 370 was abolished in August 2019

Let us tell you that in August 2019, the central government abolished Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, the state was also divided into two union territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

Before this decision, many big leaders including Mehbooba Mufti, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were placed under house arrest in Jammu and Kashmir. However, he was released several months later.
