The Deccan police came to the rescue of two girls who were allegedly being married even after being underage. The police acted on a tip-off they had received and stopped the marriage ceremonies. The two teenagers were being married off to Gulbarga, Karnataka.

After receiving a tip-off about the incident, the police reached the spot and stopped the marriage. Police inspector Deepak Lagade and a team of constables reached the spot. The two girls were allegedly being married off to Gulbarga, where they hail from.  The girls were taken to the Juvenile Justice Board committee by the police before recording their statements.

The police stated that the girls will continue with their education. While talking, Lagade said that the two girls had completed their Class 10 examinations. The marriage was allegedly planned by the parents of the girls. The parents intended to marry the girls to two men who were aged 28 years and 30 years.

Pune is not the only state in the country which is still haunted by evil like child marriage. Child marriage is malpractice which is prevalent even in today's time and age. According to UNICEF, there is 40 per cent prevalence of child marriage in the states of Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan.

In February this year, the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) released a new report called 'Factsheet Child Marriages 2019' which stated that while the prevalence of child marriage in Tamil Nadu and Kerala falls below 20 per cent, it is still a common practice in certain tribes and castes.
