Anti-China protests are taking place in Muzaffarabad of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). People living there raised their voice against the illegal construction of the dam on the Neelum and Jhelum rivers. On Monday, people demonstrated in large numbers against the construction of the Neelam-Jhelum and Kohala Hydro Power Project.

People shouted slogans against Pakistan and China. Local people said that the dam will have a bad impact on the environment. To spread the issue globally, the #SaveRiversSaveJK campaign was on trending on Twitter.

Pakistan and China are violating the UN Security Council: Protestors

This power plant is being built under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Kohala Hydropower Company Limited, a subsidiary of Three Gorges Corporation of China is developing this project. People said that Pakistan and China are violating the UN Security Council resolution by capturing the rivers. On the other hand, Local people asked that under which law China-Pakistan are building dams here. The protesters also highlighted the environmental impacts caused by the dams constructed by Pakistan and China.

One protester said, "We will march towards the Kohala project and hold the protest till it stops." Recently, Chinese company, China and Pakistan signed a $ 2.4 billion tripartite agreement for the 1,124 MW hydropower project in Kohala.

The estimated cost of the plant is about 18 thousand crores:

China and Pakistan have signed an agreement for this project this year. This power plant will generate 1124 MW of power. On the other hand, the estimated cost of the plant is about 18 thousand crores. 20 km long canal will be built, which will pass through Muzaffarabad under this project. In December 2018, the people of Muzaffarabad protested against the design of the canal.
