Podacar’s to Run Soon In Haridwar

Haridwar will soon have the facility of laser-guided automatic podcar to transport pilgrims and tourists from one part of the city to another. Haridwar will be India's first tourist destination, where tourists will get podcar facility. On the other hand, a ropeway will also be constructed in neighboring cities including Rishikesh and Dehradun to easily take the locals and tourists to the hilly areas. According to the information, the Uttarakhand government has also signed an MoU with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

Uttarakhand Urban Development Minister Madan Kaushik said the idea was inspired by low-cost personal rapid transit systems in Britain and Germany. Therefore, the state-level committee took note of this. DMRC officials said that after examining the feasibility and cost of ropeways and podcars in European countries, they considered it suitable for mountain towns like Rishikesh, Haridwar and Dehradun. A ropeway will also be built in Haridwar along with Podcar in Dehradun.

Madan Kaushik also informed that different transportation systems will be built in different cities according to their geographical location and traffic requirements. According to the information, the Podcar Corridor in Haridwar will be about 8 km long and will cover the area from the temple of Brahm Kund to Jwalapur in 'Har-ki-Pauri' and the Podcar Corridor can have a total of 11 stations.

Podcar is similar to a taxi, in which six passengers can travel at once and can be operated through a laser-guided system. On the other hand, rope-way project is being considered in Rishikesh to make it easier for people to cross the river and this can also reduce the load on the 'Ram Jhula' suspension bridge on the river Ganga. Let us know that keeping in mind the safety of 'Laxman Jhoola', it was closed to the public, due to which people had to face a lot of trouble (DMRC) to complete this project.
