 Amid voting for assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people to use large number of franchise and enrich the celebration of democracy. By-elections are also being held for  51 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats across the country, in addition to 288 seats in Maharashtra and 90 seats in Haryana.

Prime Minister Modi tweeted, "Elections are being held for Haryana and Maharashtra Legislative Assemblies. By-elections are also being held in different parts of India. I urge the voters of these states to vote in record numbers and enrich the festival of democracy. I hope that the youth will vote in large numbers".

Prior to the vote, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that "Today is the voting day for the Haryana Assembly elections. I request all voters to cast their vote and participate in this festival of democracy".  PM Modi often uses Twitter to appeal to voters during election days.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also appealed to voters to use the franchise. Shah said, casteism, familism and corruption are the biggest inhibitors for the development of  Haryana. Your one vote for development and nationalism will keep Haryana on the path of progress. All my brothers and sisters from Haryana vote before taking refreshment and participate in the development story of the state.

Shah appealed to the people of Maharashtra to consider development and poor welfare as the basis for choosing a Government that realizes Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's dream of Swaraj. I appeal to my brothers and sisters in Maharashtra to vote to maintain a stable and honest Government in the state.
